By the overly condensed space in my life, I failed to see the rarity that we all are. What makes me unique, what drives me forward. My fence bulged with ideas and yet they blurred into a frenzy. The fog densely occupied my world, so I aired it out. I took a deep breath, walked to the fence, and focused. I focused on one thing, a thing that takes time to truly value: my differences are dynamic. They do not separate me - they create a new conversation. Here I am, a college senior with a major in English, pushing to become a healthcare administrator. Wrapping my head around the value of being different was difficult until I opened the fence. We cannot see the plethora of similarities that most of us share because we worry about being too different. Press your mind to open the fence and embrace what is unique, for that is what binds us all.
A concept to embrace is courage. The more you embrace, the better you feel. Decisions are not clear-cut. They are messy and leave an unwavering sense of uncertainty. Yet, we meet the idea of being different once more. To be courageous, you must decide on what highlights your exceptionality. It is in you - be steadfast and pure. In the face of polarization, let the first thing you bring to the table of equals be your extraordinary spirit. Passion must be met by empathy, the driving force of the best decisions. Allow yourself to be empathetic for you; do not pity, welcome the difficulties and hear what they have to say. But do not falter at their strength.
At face value, seizures appeared as a difficulty. They seemed impossible to defeat, let alone live with. However, I am different because I stand with my condition, not beneath it. In so many ways do we all have a condition. But the term “condition” is simply “a circumstance.” The impermeable nature of our plight is rarely addressed. We consider it a label, ever changing our initial path. There was only one path because we put up fences, one way in and one way out. Take down the stockade and see the endless roads leading to dissimilar directions. You decide the journey rather than navigating inside a frail fortress.
