Judgment is a juvenile trait in our society – we have all fallen to moments where we speak faster than we think. Judgment is a critical component as to why humans construct armor: to avoid someone else questioning their core instincts. In all of us, we have a moral core; we have a barometer that guides us with intuition, with proper sense and goodwill. If abiding by that essence, we do not feel the need to judge anymore because we ourselves are no longer judging.
New Year’s Resolutions can last briefly, our personal nobility is permanent. I am struck by the count of people who feel confined in their own skin, who constrain themselves to reflect the look, the lifestyle, the confidence, of someone else. Seek inspiration in yourself. Resolve your manners that disembody your authenticity. Move forward without looking behind your back to see if anyone is watching.
I am writing about a movement for sincerity because, over the past month, I found strength in myself to look beyond the standard. I felt powerful because I was powerful. I withstood a whirlwind of medicines, seizures, and missed attempts of drawing blood that caressed a courage inside of me. I find fear to be a driving force of this audacity. Do not dismay fear. Fear is the defining quality of our pure self, our core.
We have all been scared at some time in our lives. Others may have experienced a deeper, disheartening worry than others. This worry is not to be set aside, but this worry can carry you to higher ground. There are undoubtable facts in this world – the sun will rise, the sun will set, and the moon will continue to orbit, bringing tides to and fro on every oceanfront. On the other side of the spectrum, we have our unknowns. Life is the biggest unknown. Life is what we all believe to be our strongest set of armor, but indeed life can be our most vulnerable asset.
In this new year, do not fear the unknown. Find the courage to be kind, to listen to yourself, to raise your voice against the unethical, and be your own advocate. In this new year, do not fear yourself.
